There’s no clear reason for anyone to buy into Valve’s platform right now. The audience that might be most sympathetic to the idea, devoted PC gamers, are far better off just buying or building a Windows-based machine so they can take advantage of everything Steam and PC gaming has to offer. And there’s a lot to offer! The idea of the Steam Machine is actually really compelling, provided it brings everything that’s great about PC gaming to the couch. PC gaming has long had a leg-up over consoles in important areas: the games are usually cheaper, there’s a lot more indie stuff to play, the graphics are better, you can upgrade the hardware over time, and there’s a whole world of game modification that unlocks and transforms popular titles in weird and surprising ways. Instead of offering the best of both worlds, Steam Machines sit in a strange middle ground that’s too confusing and too compromised to make sense for anyone. The GT72 Dominator Pro G is MSI's latest gaming notebook, primarily symbolic for its inclusion of nVidia's GTX 980 desktop GPU. Last month, we reported that desktop GTX 980 GM204 chips were en route to the notebook market, already integrated in various form factors and manufacturer offerings. We've gotten hands-on with a few GTX 980 notebooks – the Aorus X7 DT, CLEVO P870DM, ASUS GX700VO, MSI GT72 – and have seen form factors spanning slim (<1” thickness) through the usual “desktop replacement” models (2”, for the GT72).De CS GO update komt tegelijk met een nieuwe access pass genaamd Wildfire. If you see someone with a rad skin on these servers, it's likely a mod that they plugged into the game or even purchased from another player, which in affect takes money out of Valve's pocket for cosmetic items.

One thing you will see time and time again in low-rank matches is impatient counter-terrorists. When playing as the CT side (assuming you’re playing a defusal map, which is the predominant competitive game mode), your job is to hold down the bomb sites and not let the terrorists plant the bomb. If you’re pushing up past the bomb sites and hunting around for terrorists, a smart terrorist team will simply wait you out and kill you when you push. Don’t do it. And learn how to punish people for doing it when you’re on terrorist side.CS:GO tips: Guide on how to get better at Counter-Strike: Global OffensiveFirstly, this is no brand spanking new game, and I know many people may frown upon this. Valve have taken the age old formula of Counter Terrorists Vs Terrorists and merely given the game a facelift. The graphical leap isn’t truly astounding, but I suppose if you had to have Global Offensive (CSGO) lined up on a screen next to the older Counter-Strike Source (CSS) iteration, then differences could be seen and picked out.As far as technical game mechanics go, what’s really changed? Maps have all pretty much received balance changes. They are subtle, but they make a huge difference. Most notably is that of the classic De_Dust. This map tends to favour CT’s, but with some small changes (such as the simple addition of a makeshift bridge and an added staircase), it really does seem to give the Terrorists a fighting chance. The Swedish-based organization released news about their new addition. Following the actual trends of many teams switching to CS:GO, ColdGame picked up five players to represent the organization on the new Valve's title that will be released soon.

A year later, I couldn’t be happier with my setup. If I can help it, I won't play PC games in a chair at home again. Here’s what I’ve learned after more than 12 months of playing PC games upright.Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the massively popular first-person shooter from Valve, receives a fresh Operation Vanguard event today, which comes with a massive patch filled with new maps, special skins, and plenty of improvements to game modes like Arms Race or Demolition. The UK Gambling Commission, which regulates betting, declined to comment on individual providers but said any site offering gambling services to British residents must be registered.Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or CS:GO, an online first-person shooter from Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation, has just hit another record high. How is this even possible? A regular seller on local gaming forums explained to Gadgets 360 how they're able to undercut Valve.Keys end up being cheaper via Reddit or other non-official marketplaces simply due to the fact that real money is exchanged instead of seeing cash added to your Steam Wallet. Its commonplace to see them willing to take a hit on the price for added liquidity, proving that cash is indeed king.Either way, as the Daily Dot points out, it seems clear that the ESL would like to distance itself from Valve. The CS:GO tournament at ESL One Cologne announced earlier this year is billed as the largest in the world, with a $250,000 prize pool, but unlike previous tournaments that were "community funded" in conjunction with Valve, this year's event is being covered entirely by the ESL. The change struck me as odd at the time—why say "no" if somebody else wants to foot the bill?—but now it's making a little more sense. The teams were divined in to two groups, each one consisting of four teams. The structure of the competition was set to the traditional best-of-one double elimination format for the group stage and best-of-three single elimination for the playoffs, including the grand final, and using the default competitive map pool.

Alex hopes that the game can find an audience among the ESL viewers. "We see the younger generation falling in love with the simple ruleset of the game and appreciating its depth," he says, "while the people of my generation—around 30, now with responsibilities and all that—appreciate how easy it is to enjoy SpeedRunners without investing too many hours in it."Developer DoubleDutch hadn't originally created the game with intentions of becoming an esport. "We quickly realized it had the makings of one," says Nichiporchik, "and confirmed our suspicions every time we hosted a local tournament at a convention. We decided to go fully in that direction after introducing a Ranked system where players could level up and compete for placement in ladders."“It really is a grey area,” said Tomas “Morte” Kerbush, a professional gamer who plays Battlefield 4, another popular first person shooter. His team-mate Erik “2-Easy” Van Hoorn was more explicit: “Underage kids are betting and there is no way to control it.” William Jeong, a fourth-year history student, attributes the success of the team to they put in as a team.

Gamasutra recently sat down to play some CS:GO with Le, and chat about his thoughts on Counter Strike and the industry in general. Here's Le in his own words.I was working with Valve for about five years, and I left at the end of 2006. I started a new game called Tactical Intervention. I guess a lot of people wonder why I left Valve -- everyone wants to work at Valve, right? I think at the time, they were at the stage where there wasn't a lot of push towards a new Counter Strike game. At the time they were working on Team Fortress 2, and I felt that I wanted to focus more on a game that was similar to CS.The website, csgoshuffle-trade[DOT]com, is a fake domain for CSGO Shuffle, “a popular betting site for streamers and players of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to trade item skins. The site is designed to look like Steam’s trading window. Malware is on this site, but it is not downloaded automatically; it is triggered by interacting with the page in much the same way Steam users might interact with a trading window. When users tick the “Confirm trade contents” blue bar on the site and confirm that they are “ready for trade,” it enables the “Accept Trade” button at the bottom of the page. Once users click this button, a “Trade Offer Accept” window pops up, telling them that their item has been submitted to the store, but by running a new “Escrow” application they won’t have to wait three days for the transaction to be completed. Clicking “Okay” sends them to a Dropbox page that contains a download for “Escrow.exe.” Naturally this file is malware. Malwarebytes detects this file as containing “Backdoor.NanoCore.”

Let me just say that everything you’ve heard about this new big boy is true… In a good way.Scott “Sirscoots” Smith has a particularly long view of Counter-Strike’s history. He’s been playing the game since the day the public beta became available in June of 1999, and over the last 15 years, he’s done everything from managing pro teams, to helping launch the esports coverage outlet GotFrag TV, to his current gig as the host of the analyst desk at Dreamhack and ESL One’s big tournaments.
